What is Trade Balance?

Trade balance is an economic indicator that tracks the monthly changes in the difference between the value of goods and services imported and exported by a country or region. A negative figure indicates a trade deficit; a positive figure indicates a trade surplus. When the data is better than expected, i.e. a deficit is reduced and/or a surplus is extended, this tends to have a positive effect on the currency in question.
