What is Bond?

An asset class in its own right, a bond is a fixed-income security in which an issuer borrows money from an investor, agreeing to pay a predefined interest rate and settle the debt at a specified later date. Bonds can be issued by corporations, municipalities and governments. Interest is paid on them every six months and they are said to mature when the amount lent is due.
