What is Bear Market?

A bear market is characterised by pessimism, falling prices, and wide-spread selling of underlying assets. The situation is often self-perpetuating because falling prices cause investors to want to cut their losses and also sell, which exacerbates the downward trend. A drop in value of 20% or more which is sustained for a period of two months is often regarded as an official entry into a bear market.
